myBJC Terms and Conditions of Use

Please read the terms and conditions entirely and carefully before using myBJC. These terms and conditions are subject to change without prior written notice at any time, in BJC HealthCare’s sole discretion.

BJC HealthCare (“BJC”) is pleased to offer you access to a service called “myBJC” available via a website located at myBJC provides you with convenient access to select portions of your medical record. The Service may also allow you to designate other people (each called a “proxy”) to have access to these select portions of your medical record and/or other service options (referred to in this document as “proxy access”). The information available through myBJC may come from many sources including, but not necessarily limited to, inpatient information, outpatient information, clinic information, laboratory data, retail pharmacy records, radiology/imaging test results and/or any other information or data permissibly received from non-BJC affiliated healthcare providers.

This service may also offer you or your designated proxy(ies) a method of online communication with your health care provider(s) who choose to communicate electronically via and their practice staff for activities such as prescription renewals, appointment scheduling and online messaging. BJC does not represent or guarantee that any certain health care provider(s) will choose to communicate in this manner or shall continue to communicate in this manner. Discuss these choices with your health care provider(s). In addition, each health care provider chooses how to set-up its method and distribution of such communications.

Although you may have access to a variety of records (i.e., laboratory and imaging test results) through the myBJC services, not all of the health care providers who have ordered these tests may be accepting electronic communications via the myBJC website. Therefore, while you may securely communicate with health care providers participating in the electronic communication service offered via, you might not be able to communicate in that manner with all of your health care providers. You should contact non-participating healthcare providers in the manner you currently do. Also, ask your primary care doctor, specialist(s) and the ordering/consulting physician(s) about whom to contact with questions or concerns about your test results, the meaning/interpretations of those results and any follow-up care.

We think it is important for you to know how we permit access and manage information via the Internet. These Terms & Conditions generally outline our practices and commitment to your privacy. We reserve the right and discretion to revoke access to this service at any time or make changes to our processes and procedures and/or these Terms and Conditions.

BJC reserves the right to use third party vendors and suppliers to perform some of the tasks or make some of the website offerings available. For instance, in order to help verify and authenticate a new user’s identification and match the individual up to their health care information, BJC may use a third party service to verify and authenticate patient identification. This verification and authentication process may require you to: 1) provide specific information about yourself, such as name, date of birth, etc; 2) provide information given to you by BJC, such as an alpha-numeric code; and/or 3) answer a series of selective questions which are not considered easily answered by anyone except you. This identity verification and authentication process is done for security reasons and would be a process similar to signing up for on-line banking, or other private on-line transactions, etc. BJC does not: 1) determine the series of questions asked; 2) have access to the answers to such questions; and 3) retain the answers you provide under the process. BJC only recognizes that your identification has been verified and authenticated under the process.

BJC HealthCare provides these services and this web site solely as a health information resource to be accessed at your convenience. This site is not an attempt to practice medicine or provide specific medical advice. This web-site should not be used as a substitute for the advice of your personal healthcare provider. You should not rely upon the site if you have immediate health concerns or questions.

You and your proxy(ies) assume full responsibility for using the information on this site, and you understand and agree that BJC HealthCare and its affiliates are not responsible for any claim, loss, or damage resulting from its use or inability to use this site by you or any user. While we try to keep the information on the site as accurate as possible, we cannot guarantee its accuracy, timeliness or completeness; nor can we guarantee that access to the site will be error - or virus-free or uninterrupted. In addition, for some information and records, an automatic delay may be built into the System to allow your health care provider(s) to do things such as review your results, verify your results, contact you to discuss your results, or other professional activities that the health care provider(s) deem clinically appropriate. Please note: Some test results normally take longer to produce than others, so this means some types of tests will not be available as quickly as other tests.

Response to Electronic Communication

Healthcare provider(s) participating in the electronic messaging component of myBJC should use normal efforts to respond to your electronic inquiries. In some cases, the clinic staff who need to respond to an electronic communication may not be immediately available. Therefore, patients should generally expect a response to take two (2) or more business days. Accordingly, emergency situations requiring immediate attention should not be submitted electronically – you should call 911 for any emergencies. Also, if you have a non-emergency issue that requires more prompt attention, please call your healthcare provider or go to the emergency room of a hospital. You should discuss communication time frames and expectations directly with your healthcare provider. Furthermore, with respect to any electronic communication sent by or on behalf of the patient, your healthcare provider may only be able to respond to such communications based on the information provided. If there is insufficient information provided, they may be unable to provide accurate and reliable responses/services and/or may request more information or clarification, which may cause delays.

By using myBJC for electronic communications with your health care provider(s) who choose to participate in myBJC, you hereby acknowledge and agree that BJC is in no way responsible or liable to store, manage or transmit any electronic communications beyond a thirty (30) day period. It is your responsibility and your provider’s responsibility to receive, capture, download and/or otherwise retain any such electronic communication that you or your provider feels is important to your care or to your treatment relationship. You and your provider hereby release BJC from any and all claims related to the storage, availability or destruction of any message or electronic communication (including audit trail data) beyond this thirty (30) day period. Finally, you acknowledge and agree that BJC may use any reasonable method of deletion or destruction of such message or electronic communication that it deems proper.

myBJC may offer links to other websites or resources, including related websites and resources not managed by BJC HealthCare. These website links are solely intended for information and reference purposes only. BJC HealthCare does not endorse and has not verified the accuracy of the information in/on these websites. Neither you nor your providers should rely solely on any of the information found on such websites for purposes of treatment or diagnosis. Due to certain federal and state laws regarding minors and/or due to the technical limitations of the myBJC service, not all tests results, medical records or other reports may be made available via this service. If you think something is missing or inaccurate, you should contact your healthcare provider directly. While BJC does not promote or prohibit the use of the electronic communication component of the myBJC service relative to the exchange of information for the care and treatment of patients under eighteen (18) years of age (i.e., minors), parents/guardians and the patient’s healthcare provider(s) should use good judgment and follow applicable laws when communicating and releasing medical information about minors in this manner. BJC is not responsible to monitor such communications or determine whether such communications are appropriate, permissible or lawful.

Email Privacy

Users of myBJC will generally be notified via email when there is new or modified medical information to be viewed on myBJC. This means that any person with access to a patient’s email account will be able to see this notification including your proxy(ies). This could include the patient’s spouse, child(ren), employer or anyone else who can access the patient’s email account. Although no specific medical information will be sent in the notification, the notification of new medical information being available by accessing myBJC may be information that a patient would not want others to know. Thus, patients should take this into account when providing or changing the email address on file with myBJC.

Please know that if you send an email communication via the myBJC services to your healthcare provider, it may be shared with or used by individuals that assist your healthcare provider in rendering or coordinating your healthcare. A patient’s medical information available through myBJC will be accessible to staff members designated by your healthcare provider. The ways in which such information may be accessed, used or disclosed should be set forth in such provider’s HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices. Security and Confidentiality

BJC HealthCare is committed to protecting the confidentiality of your medical information. Standard security measures, such as, firewalls, passwords, encryption, and audit trails, are used to safeguard your information. We track the time and date of access to records each time a patient account is accessed through myBJC. We have taken steps to secure all such information against unauthorized access, use and release.

In general, you must access with a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) compatible browser or terminal (Internet Explorer version 7.0 or later or Mozilla Firefox version 3.0 or later). These requirements may change over time. Our SSL web server uses authentication and offers current industry-accepted security methods. We utilize physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to promote the prevention and detection of unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure authorized use and disclosure of information. We allow access to the information only to those employees, clinical providers, contractors and service and equipment providers who need such access in connection with providing services to you, to us or on our behalf. If you become aware of any actual or suspected unauthorized use or disclosure of your information via these services, you should immediately contact us.

You can generally tell when you are using a secure site by looking at the location (URL) field. If the URL begins with https:// (instead of http://), the document/link should come from a secure server. This means your data cannot be read or deciphered by unauthorized individuals. You can also generally tell if you are connected to our site by verifying that the address shown in your browser window starts with ( Further verification can be done by viewing the site's SSL certificate (the process for this varies depending on which browser you are using) and verifying that the certificate reads "BJC HealthCare" and that the certificate is verified by a trusted root certificate authority.

Your account information and profile are password protected. User names and passwords provide two layers of security and authentication. These user names and passwords are stored by BJC in an encrypted database that is separately kept from the Internet. As a myBJC user, your role in maintaining the security of your medical information is critically important. You should always:

  1. Use a “strong” password. A strong password is typically considered one that has the following attributes: It has a lengthy (8 characters or more) combination of upper/lower case letters, numbers, and special characters; and it does not contain and is not derived from words, names or other common or easily guessed combinations (i.e., birth date).
  2. Change your password on a regular basis (every 90 days is a widely accepted security recommendation)
  3. Keep your login ID and password strictly confidential.

You should not share your password with anyone (even your designated proxy(ies)). Each proxy you designate will have a separate, individual and unique identification code and password. You will be able to delete or modify proxy access when desired, by either: 1) contacting your healthcare provider that registered you into myBJC; or 2) when available, managing your myBJC account on-line. We will never ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or in an unsolicited email. You should sign out of your account and close your browser window when you have finished your session, so others cannot access your personal information. This is especially important if you share a computer with someone else or are using a computer in a public place. You should be cautious in using the “Remember My Password” or “Remember Me” function on your computer or web browser. These functions may compromise the secure or confidential nature of your information, especially if you are using a computer shared by more than 1 person. If you become aware of any actual or suspected unauthorized use or disclosure of your information or your user name or password, you should immediately contact us.

Although we use these security safeguards in providing access to these services, other data transmission methods over the Internet or via a wireless network may not be as secure. You should always be cautious in your use of unsecured, unknown or suspicious networks, wireless access points and/or websites, especially if such use includes the transmission of personal, confidential or private information (such as health or medical information, financial information, etc). Whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online (for example on message boards, through email, blogs or in chat areas) that information can be collected and used by others. Please carefully consider if/when/where to disclose such personal information. Additionally, if you print out your medical records and misplace or may lose them, then that information may not be private information anymore.

Although we take diligent effort to preserve your privacy and the confidentiality of your information, we may need to disclose personal information when we have a good faith belief such action is required by law or is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process.
